Coquette's Kaleidoscope Mystery Girl
"Chyanne", March 11, 2005
July 11, 2008

This is my baby girl, Chy-Chy, who was DNA tested for prcd-PRA at five months old
when she came to live with me, and her test came back AFFECTED. Chyanne is
going to go blind.

Chyanne was spayed and we go every year for her CERF exam, just to see where we
are. So far, her eyes have been normal every time.

Today we found out that her retinas are beginning to deteriorate. So the DNA test
wasn't a mistake. Chy-Chy was three years old in March and it may be a year or it
may be three years, but blindness is coming for my baby girl...

Chyanne is one of the reasons I feel so strongly about health testing. She educated
me about the importance of doing the tests and breeding accordingly.

I love this little girl!!

Update - August 2009

I can tell her vision is going. Night blindness is the first sign. She won't go off the deck
at night unless I turn on the floodlights in the yard and, if it's dark in the house, she
sticks right by me.

Otherwise, she is her usual bouncy, happy self, zooming around the house and
keeping any visiting youngsters in check.

I am not posting these updates to be morbid but just to chart the progress of this
disease. No wonder I'm such a SPAZ about PRA testing!!!
